Siri Lyon

Oboe & English Horn

Known for her elegant musical interpretations and expression, Siri Lyon has established herself as an accomplished musician with a multi-faceted career. 

Based in Southern California, Mrs. Lyon served as Principal Oboist for the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra, and has also appeared on oboe and English horn with the Dana Point Symphony, Whittier Regional Symphony, Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, and the inaugural Piatigorsky International Cello Festival Orchestra where she collaborated with members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. She has played under the baton of many celebrated conductors including Hugh Wolff, Helmuth Rilling, Mei-Ann Chen and Carl St. Clair.

Mrs. Lyon is also a passionate chamber musician and a member of the Sound of 5 woodwind quintet. As recipients of the University of Southern California Outreach Fellowship and the Max L. Gluck Foundation Fellowship, Sound of 5 performed 45 outreach concerts at elementary schools, convalescent homes, children's hospitals, low-income housing and juvenile detention centers throughout Los Angeles. Their program took audiences around the world showcasing different musical cultures and celebrations. Most recently, Sound of 5 presented their newest program, Musical ARTchitecture, as part of the Palos Verdes Library District's Classical Music Series.

A dedicated teacher, Mrs. Lyon maintains a thriving private studio and is on faculty at Concordia University Irvine. Within her role as Professor of Oboe she has served as a woodwind ensemble coach and runs the annual Double Reed Day event with colleague Elizabeth Low-Atwater, Professor of Bassoon. The event focuses on introducing oboe & bassoon players of all ages to the reed making process and showcasing local double reed vendors and resources.

With over 13 years of experience, Mrs. Lyon is also a professional reed maker. She sells her signature Bloom Oboe Reed, an homage to her maiden name, nationally through Midwest Musical Imports. 

Mrs. Lyon received her Master of Music in Oboe Performance at the University of Southern California, and her Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance at New England Conservatory of Music. Her former teachers include David Weiss, Mark McEwen and Basil Reeve.
